Hebrew Placement Exam
All present or prospective students wanting to meet the Hebrew Language requirements at the SDA Theological Seminary at Andrews University without taking a class can do so by signing up for the Hebrew Placement Exam. The exam is called “placement” exam because the results will determine whether you have passed all Hebrew language requirements or are placed into an OTST551 (Hebrew I) or OTST552 (Hebrew II) course.
The exam can be taken only once and consists of two parts:
- In the first part, basic Hebrew-I questions are being asked. The second part is identical to the Hebrew-II Final Exam. One has successfully passed a part when scoring at least 75%. If one has not passed the first part of the exam, one must enroll in an OTST551 course.
- In the second part, basic Hebrew-II questions are being asked. If one has passed the first part but has not passed the second part, one must enroll in an OTST552 course. If one passes both parts successfully, all language requirements are fulfilled, and the student can move on to enrolling in exegesis courses.
Below you can see what categories of questions you will have to master in the different parts of the exam. Each category is hyperlinked. When you click on a given hyperlink you can start to exercise and test yourself on each category. The exam will contain exactly the same type of questions and difficulty level you are encountering when using the hyperlinked exercises.

Students at any location can prepare by using the above links. Each student has 3 hours to complete the exam.
The exam will be made available by the OT department at the Seminary and can be taken at the location of any of our partner schools. Results will be available instantly. The placement exam can be taken only one time! However, the above links can be used endlessly to make good preparation possible. Instructors can also use the above links in their classes as class material. Please contact otst@andrews.edu to request a placement exam to be set up for your school. The requesting school should provide the OT department with the date and time they want the placement exam to be available.
How to take the Placement Exam?
Once you have requested a placement exam with the OT department (otst@andrews.edu), you are provided with the exact time and date when the exam will be available. You will then have to to take the following steps:
- In the Bible OL enroll into the class with the name “AU Hebrew Placement Exam”.

- Once you have enrolled you can see the Placement Exam show up under “Exams”. The following video shows how you can find and take exams on the Bible OL:
- When you are finished taking your exam you can lookup your exam results instantly. The OT department will inform you within a few days with an official email that you have failed or partially/fully passed the language requirements and will provide you with further instructions in case enrolling in a OTST551 (Hebrew I) or OTST552 (Hebrew II) course is required.
